    Dinner fromwhat you have.

It is five o’clock and nobody wants to go to the store. Here is a quick way to find recipes with the ingredients you already have.

    Start with what needs using

The best dinner to make is often the one that uses up whatever is about to go bad. Start there and the rest of the decision gets smaller.

You need less than you think. A protein, a base and a vegetable make a dinner, and the seasoning decides what kind.

    A five minute method

    1. Find the protein

Chicken, eggs, a can of beans, ground beef in the freezer, tofu. Pick the one that needs using first.

    2. Add a base

Rice, pasta, tortillas, potatoes or bread. Most kitchens have at least one.

    3. Add a vegetable

Fresh, frozen and canned all count. A bag of frozen peas has saved plenty of dinners.

    4. Pick a direction

Soy sauce and garlic, taco seasoning, lemon and herbs, or tomato and cheese. The same chicken and rice becomes a different dinner each time.

    5. Check the clock

With twenty minutes, sauté or scramble. With an hour, roast or simmer.

    6. Keep a few staples

Eggs, onions, garlic, rice, pasta, canned tomatoes and frozen vegetables make this work most nights.

    Questions, answered.

What can I make with chicken, rice and frozen vegetables?

Fried rice, a chicken and rice bowl with a quick sauce, or a sheet pan dinner with the vegetables roasted alongside. In Sixish, add those three to your pantry and Quick Cook suggests dinners from them, with nothing to buy.

Does Sixish only use what I have?

Quick Cook does: every dinner it suggests is made from what is in your pantry. Discover starts from your pantry and adds a few things to buy, and marks which ones are missing.

Do I have to type in everything I own?

No. Take a photo of the fridge, say what you have, scan a barcode or type it. After that, checking something off the grocery list puts it in your pantry for you.

    What does Sixish cost?

It is free for everything except creating new recipes: your pantry, imports, Cook Mode and the grocery list. You get 30 recipes to start, then 10 recipes a month. Sixish Plus is $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year for unlimited recipes, and one subscription covers everyone in your household.

Can my partner and kids use it too?

Yes. The grocery list is shared with everyone in your household, and each item you check off shows who got it.

    Do I need an iPhone?

Yes. Sixish is an iPhone app.

    How do I get it?
