A pound ofground beef.
It is in a lot of freezers, and it answers a lot of five o’clock questions. Here is what to make with it tonight.

Thaw it in the fridge, which takes about a day for a pound, or in a sealed bag in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes, and cook it right away. Cook it to 160°F, checked with a thermometer.
Brown it in a hot pan without crowding it, and drain the fat if there is a lot. Most of the dinners below start the same way, so browning a double batch saves a step later in the week.
Six easy dinners with ground beef
Tacos
Brown it with taco seasoning, or cumin, chili powder and garlic. Add tortillas, cheese and whatever toppings you have.
Spaghetti with meat sauce
Brown it with onion and garlic, add a jar or can of tomatoes, and let it simmer while the pasta cooks.
Chili
Ground beef, canned beans, canned tomatoes and chili powder. It is better the next day, so make extra.
Beef and broccoli rice bowls
Brown it with garlic and ginger, add soy sauce and a little sugar, and serve it with broccoli over rice.
Sloppy joes
Brown it with onion, stir in ketchup, mustard and a little brown sugar, and serve it on buns.
Loaded baked potatoes
Bake the potatoes, then top them with seasoned beef, cheese and sour cream.
